Borderless
2024-2025

Inspired by Károly’s mixed heritage, Romani-Hungarian and Dutch. Borderless is a book meant to preserve the rich history and culture of the Romani people, the biggest ethnic minority group in Europe.
Borderless aims to shed light on the origin, culture and struggles of the Roma, who are, unfortunately,
still victims of discrimination and social exclusion.
It showcases the past, while looking forward to the future of the Roma community.
Designed in a free-flowing way, this book guides you through the different chapters and topics. Heavily relying on imagery, Borderless educates its readers while challenges current stereotypes. The Swiss binding exposes the delicate French link stitch used to stitch this story together, while allowing the book to be opened up fully to showcase the historic imagery.

REVISIT
2025

REVISIT is a reimagination of OASE magazine issue 20, “Bloemen van het Kwaad”.
Treating the magazine like a building, Károly combined architecture with baroque art.
Inspired by old floorplans of iconic buildings like Chateau Versailles and the Pantheon of Rome.
Original articles from OASE issue 20 are typeset into famous floorplans.
Imagery is reduced to bitmaps, exposing the building blocks and foundations of images.
Moving through the magazine like a building, when reaching a new article,
the header and footer move up on the page.
The Swiss binding exposes the French link stitches, showing the foundation of the magazine.

Maiden, Mother, Matron
2024

Inspired by the many depictions of Holy Mary, “Maiden, Mother, Matron” explores the different phases of Mary’s life. Through highlighting the symbolism in her body language, gazing eyes up or downwards,
open hands and facial expressions, exploring her story.
Through the archive of the Rijksmuseum, Károly carefully curated a visual story through artworks.
Each signature is individually wrapped in a coloured paper, corresponding with the phase of Mary’s life.
By opening and closing with the maiden, the book can be viewed as a non-linear story, just like Mary’s. Bound together with a coptic binding technique, the book feels inviting to open up and be viewed,
while still feeling secure and firm.

UNWRITTEN
2025

UNWRITTEN is an interactive zine about hands.
Printed in a big size and folded up, it requires the movement of hands to unveil the imagery and text.
A transcript talking about hands is typeset and manually traced to add a personal touch to the zine.
Scans of hands are blown up and used as imagery.
The more you unfold the zine, the more zoomed in the images get to showcase all the intimate details.
The zine is wrapped in a black sleeve, ready to be unpacked.

WETT type specimen
2024

WETT is an experimental type specimen inspired by gay cruising culture.
Printed on 2 heavy A3’s and folded in each other,
it forms a continues visual journey through the decorative specimen.
Created by first trashing a public bathroom with toilet paper, and then photographing the scene.
WETT is designed by analysing the shapes the toilet paper formed,
tracing those shapes and dissecting them into different parts.
Karoly formed letters by repurposing the dissected parts forming provocative words like;
smell, flush, wet, ew and bye.
